Supuestos del cálculo
  • Estimated paycheck based on annualized tax liability, not employer payroll withholding.
  • Annual tax is divided across 26 pay periods.
  • This estimate uses tax year 2026.
  • Federal filing status: Single.
  • Federal income tax uses the IRS standard deduction of $16,100.00. Itemized deductions are not used.
  • Federal tax credits, capital gains, self-employment tax and AMT are not included. State exemption credits are included where this snapshot carries them.
  • What a dependent is worth depends entirely on the state, and in several it is worth nothing. The dependents field says so beneath itself when that is the case.
  • Employer benefits and pre-tax payroll deductions are not included.
  • This is an estimate, not a tax return or employer withholding notice.
  • Federal source: IRS Revenue Procedure for tax year 2026.
  • Utah tax uses Utah State Tax Commission rules. Schedule year 2025. State-specific credits and most subtractions are not modeled.
  • This state levies no local income tax on wages, so nothing is omitted on that account.
  • Utah gives an exemption as a credit against tax rather than a deduction from income; $551.34 was applied.

How Utah taxes a paycheck

Utah taxes wages at one flat rate, 4.5% of taxable income, whatever the salary.

Federal income tax uses the IRS 2026 brackets and standard deduction. Social Security is 6.2% of pay up to $184,500 a year and Medicare is 1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000.

What the Utah figure includes

  • Utah taxes income at a flat 4.5% from January 1, 2025 (Utah State Tax Commission, Tax Rates; Utah Code 59-10-104).
  • Utah gives no deduction. Instead TC-40 line 16 grants a credit of 6% of the federal standard deduction plus Utah personal exemptions, reduced by 1.3% of income above a base of $18,213 single, $36,426 filing jointly, $18,213 filing separately and $27,320 head of household, and never below zero.
  • That credit is read from the federal standard deduction in this same snapshot rather than copied as a dollar figure, so it moves when the IRS indexes the deduction instead of going stale.
  • The Utah personal exemption is $2,111 per dependent for 2025. That amount is credited at 6% when dependents are supplied.
  • Utah had not published 2026 amounts at verification, so this row declares the 2025 schedule. Utah’s other credits and its additions and subtractions are not modeled.

Utah paycheck questions

How much is taken out of a paycheck in Utah?

On the Utah median wage of $50,110 (BLS, May 2025), paid every two weeks, about $360.40 of a $1,927.31 paycheck goes to tax: $147.43 federal income tax, $147.44 Social Security and Medicare, and $65.52 Utah income tax. That leaves $1,566.91.

This assumes a single filer with the standard deduction and no pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) or health premiums, which would lower both the tax and the check.

Does Utah have a state income tax?

Yes. Utah taxes wages at one flat rate, 4.5% of taxable income, whatever the salary. The rules come from Utah State Tax Commission.

What is the Utah income tax rate for 2026?

Flat 4.5% of taxable income, using the 2025 rate, the latest Utah State Tax Commission had published when these figures were checked.

How much is $1,000 a week after taxes in Utah?

About $810.56 a week, or $42,149 a year, for a single filer with the standard deduction in 2026. Federal income tax takes about $78.08 a week and Social Security and Medicare $76.50; Utah income tax about $34.87.

Why is my real paycheck different from this estimate?

Employers withhold with the IRS percentage method and your W-4, not with an annual estimate split into pay periods. Pre-tax deductions such as a 401(k), health insurance or an HSA lower your taxable pay, and bonuses are often withheld at a flat supplemental rate. Over a full year the two should come close; a single check can differ.
